Luminosity see off SK in elimination
Luminosity Gaming are through to the decider match of Group A at DreamHack Open Leipzig after moving past SK Gaming 2-1 (16-7 on de_overpass, 10-16 on de_mirage and 16-10 on de_train).
The first elimination match at DreamHack Open Leipzig saw Luminosity and SK Gaming fight for survival in a best-of-three match, with the winner earning the chance to meet FaZe for a playoff berth.
Overpass kicked off the series, and it was a one-sided affair at first as Luminosity got out to a 5-0 lead. Emil "Magisk" Reif then stepped up to the place and picked up four frags to give SK Gaming their first round on the board, with Andreas "MODDII" Fridh following it up with a triple kill in the next round. The rest of the half was highly contested, and in the end only three rounds separated the two sides.
Up 9-6, Luminosity further extended their lead by taking the opening three rounds on the CT side. SK responded by winning the first gun round on the back of a triple kill from Jacob "Pimp" Winneche, but the Brazilians kept their cool and quickly closed out the game, with Lincoln "fnx" Lau picking up back-to-back aces to finish off the Danes.
fnx in great shape throughout the series
Overpass was a bit chaotic at first as teams took turns winning rounds during the early stages, but then SK took control of the proceedings and raced into a 6-3 lead. The game was threatening to spiral out of control for Luminosity, but Marcelo "coldzera" David got his team back into contention with a triple kill with the AWP. The Brazilian giants would be able to carry their momentum for several more rounds as they closed out the first half leading 9-6.
SK came from the restart looking very strong and won six of the first seven rounds to force a tactical pause from Luminosity, whose attempt to slow down the tempo of the game failed to produce the desired effect as the Danes also took the next four rounds to secure a 16-10 victory and level the series.
Friis had moments of brilliance
It all came down to de_train, where fnx gave Luminosity the lead with four kills in the pistol round. After giving away the first eco round, SK were able to rally back armed with nothing but pistols, breaking the economy of their opponents. The Danish team would bring the scoreline to 6-3, forcing a tactical pause from the Brazilians, who adjusted their attack and reduced the gap to just one round at the end of the half.
SK added to their tally by winning the pistol round on the Terrorist side, but Luminosity hit back right after on a force buy and embarked on a fantastic run, taking nine of the next ten rounds en route to a 16-10 victory.
